The creation of the Department of Economics began in 2003. The first Head of the "Economics and Information Systems" Department was M. Vinnitskaya, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, author of syllabuses and teaching complexes in a number of academic disciplines, such as "Information protection", "Mathematical Models and Computer Calculations", "Computer Science Workshop", "Computer Science in Mining", "Project Management", "Methods and Models of Project Portfolio Management", "Technology of Balanced Management Based on SSP", "Computer Technology in Science and Education", etc.
From 2005-2007, the Department was headed by G. Kosolapova, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, author of more than 45 scientific papers and educational and methodological developments, which are widely used in the training of specialists in economic majors.
From 2007-2013, the Department of Economics was headed by Zennat Yekeeva, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, author of 40 scientific and methodological works, including 2 textbooks "Simulation Modeling", "Project Analysis".
From September 2013 to the present, the Department is headed by Roza Kalgulova - Professor, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Higher Attestation Commission, Honorary Worker of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Scientific and pedagogical experience of more than 34 years, she has published more than 100 scientific and educational works, including 5 textbooks, 2 of them in the state language, has practical experience in the field of banking, is a reviewer of textbooks and manuals by the line of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK in economic disciplines.

The Department of Economics is one of the educational and scientific divisions of the Institute, a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Auto Transport. The main purpose of the Department is to prepare bachelors in the "Economics", "Management", "Accounting and Audit", "Finance", "Marketing" educational programs, Masters in the "Economics" educational program, the implementation of scientific and educational work.
22 lecturers are engaged in training and graduation of Bachelors and Masters at the Department of Economics, including 1 Doctor of Economics, 12 Candidates of Economics, 7 Senior lecturers - Masters of Economics and 2 Senior lecturers.
In order to improve the quality of teaching, to ensure a close relationship with production, specialists with experience in relevant industries are involved in the educational process, by organizing the guest lectures with business representatives having the practical experience. Within the framework of the educational program, practical lecturers are: university faculty members with experience in the relevant industry and part-time lecturers; The selection of lecturers-practitioners is carried out on the basis of qualification requirements, job descriptions and approved staffing, taking into account extensive experience in the relevant field of activity. Educational programs at the Academy must undergo an internal quality assessment procedure. Professors and associate professors in the relevant specialty or training with extensive experience in teaching work, as well as practical lecturers are involved in the development of the EP.
The teaching staff of the Department conducts research activities, participates in international, interuniversity conferences, publishes monographs, articles in scientific journals, participates in the development of textbooks, lecture courses and other teaching materials. In recent years, 6 textbooks have been published.
The Department has a training base for conducting production and pre-graduate internships in "Asphaltobeton-1" LLP.
Students have the opportunity to undergo industrial, pre-graduate practice in bank branches, various enterprises of the road industry, transport and construction. Contracts have been concluded for the completion of all types of internship.
Within the framework of cooperation with employers, a close relationship is carried out in the development, discussion and adjustment of educational programs.
Faculty of the Department together with the scientific and production Department of KazADI took an active part in research work on the development of tender projects:
- "Trade and Transport Company" LLP, JSC "Kazatomprom". Engineering technical supervision services at Shieli–Taikonur and Taukent– Moyinkum mine–Kanzhugan mine. The results of the work are recommended for use in places of major repairs of the section of the highway "Taukent - Kanzhugan mine - Moyinkum mine", in the places of reconstruction of the Shieli - Taikonur highway, and also introduced into the educational process of KazADI for conducting practical classes in the discipline "Economics and Enterprise Management" with students of the 4th year of the Construction major.
- Provision of engineering services for monitoring the quality of the reconstruction of the Shieli-Toikonur highway. The results of the work are recommended for use in places of production of road repair work on the section of the "Shieli - Taikonur" highway, and also introduced into the educational process of KazADI for practical training in the "Organization of Production and Enterprise Management" discipline with 4th-year students of the Organization of transportation, traffic and operation EP.
- Assessment of the technical and transport-operational condition of the Moyinkum Mine - Tortkuduk Mine highway. The results of the work are recommended for use on the section of the highway "Moyinkum mine - Tortkuduk mine", and also introduced into the educational process for conducting practical classes of the "Economics of Transport Construction" discipline with students of the 4th year of the Transport Construction major.
Development of a concept for the development of public transport in Atyrau for 2017-2022. The results of the work were introduced into the educational process of KazADI for conducting lectures on the "Organization of Production and Enterprise Management" discipline with students of the 4th year of the Organization of Transportation, Movement and Operation of Transport discipline.

The work is carried out jointly with the Department of "Transport Technologies" of KazADI. In the course of the research, recommendations are being developed for the development of the production and technical base of the rolling stock of public passenger transport. The main provisions of the logistics approach in passenger transportation technology have been developed. The financial and economic model of public transport with the definition of the estimated fare for passenger transportation is proposed. The conducted research allows us to develop a concept for the implementation of a special program for the organization of suburban multifunctional transport and logistics centers in Atyrau.
In the 2019-2020 academic year, professors, students and undergraduates continue to work on the research of the scientific project of the section: "Feasibility study of the creation of a business integrator on the example of the Atyrau–Uralsk highway of the Atyrau region".
The research of the project topic is aimed at optimizing the location of service facilities on the roadside zone of public roads. The basic principles of creating roadside infrastructure with the growth of motorization, cargo and passenger traffic on transport are widely analyzed. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the methodology of creating a business integrator for coordinating the work of roadside service management and to develop a mechanism for its implementation in the road industry of Kazakhstan.
